Karpiuk Canada Summer Tour 2010

The Karpiuks are headed to Canada this summer! Specifically, British Columbia. We’ve been wanting to go to Vancouver for awhile now to see some of the Karpiuks that live out on the west coast. I’m excited about getting to spend some time with Lucas’ brother and sister-in-law and their family, and we’re hoping to hook up with Grandma & Grandpa Karpiuk, too. We’ll also head inland a bit to Penticton to see Lucas’ parents and some of our friends. Penticton is beautiful in the summer, and I’ve never been to Vancouver so I can’t wait for this vacation!
We planned the trip to Vancouver over our wedding anniversary so that we could keep up with our tradition: …

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada! I hope everyone is planning to or has already spent some quality time with family and friends over a feast of delicious food this long weekend.  This is a good time of year to not only stop and think about all of the things you are thankful for, but also to tell those people how much you’re thankful for them, too.  I’ll start by saying how thankful I am for family.  My little immediate family here that consists of Lucas and our boys (the dogs), but also family that we’re far apart from right now, too.  Love to the Karpiuks and Bouthots out in British Columbia and love to the Means, Archer …

Summer Trip to Penticton

Weeeee’re back!  We’ve returned from our family road trip to beautiful Penticton, BC this past weekend and we had a blast!  We spent most of the day Friday soaking up the sun at Okanagan Lake in the newly fenced in and designated off-leash doggie beach with Oliver and Winston.  Oliver was happy to be free to swim without the burden of his leash and really enjoyed fetching his floating orange chew toy.  It was Winston’s first beach experience and we weren’t sure what to expect.  He was quick to chase after Ollie, even into the water, until he realized he could no longer touch the bottom.  Though his rear end sank like a brick, his doggie instincts prompted …

Shorts on a Train

It’s been a bit since I’ve updated, but it’s because we’ve been so busy! Last weekend my parents came up for their first trip to Calgary, and we had a fantastic time. They got in Friday, and we spent Saturday checking out the city and downtown, then Sunday we spent the day in Banff sightseeing and taking in the mountain scenery. We caught the Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert Sunday night, and had breakfast Monday morning before both my parents and Lucas’ flights. That’s right – my parents headed back to the U.S. and Lucas also headed to the U.S. for a business trip in L.A. to work with the MarketWire software …

Zombies and Stampeders and Parents (oh my!)

I’ve seen some crazy stuff in person before, but I can’t think of much that could top Calgary’s Zombie Walk 2006. What’s Calgary’s Zombie Walk? The city’s apparently got a following of zombie lovers, and yesterday was their 2nd annual Zombie Walk. The basic idea is that a bunch of people dress up like zombies and then walk like a zombie around downtown Calgary on a set route together for fun.
I’m all for dressing up like a pirate for International Talk Like a Pirate Day; after all, Lucas and I put on Pirate Pub Crawl 2006 last month where we pub crawled dressed as pirates up and down 17th Ave, but dressing …
