As an excited first time mom to be, I’ve of course gotten sucked in to reading various books during my pregnancy. I’ll admit having a brand new Kindle that I am in love with has been a big part of that. ;) I’ve done my best to pick books with good reviews and free of a condescending tone, because I am more interested in the science behind baby’s development and factual information I can use or relate to, versus a book who tells me that there is only one right way to give birth and raise a child. The parenting will come, but for now I just want to learn all I can about what’s …

16 Week Check-Up
So far we’ve attended two check-ups since our big pregnancy news. Our late December appointment went well; we just heard the heartbeat again and talked with the doctor about any concerns. I’m not having any nausea or problems so I’m feeling pretty good right now!
Today we had our January check-up appointment, and babyK decided to turn and then try and hide behind the placenta, making it tricky to hear the heartbeat. Little does he/she know that hiding is futile! We instead got to take a peek via ultrasound to make sure all was well, and lo and behold… there they were! The heartbeat was still strong and steady at 160 BPM. We’re right on track …

Our Family Life 2010 Scrapbook
(Cross post from my craft blog)
Amongst all of the other craziness around here, you (and I) may have forgotten that I also spend a fair amount of time digital scrapbooking, too! For each of the past 3 years I have created a big, single digital scrapbook that encompasses the entire year in its pages. I’m excited to have finished album #3 this weekend! Family Life 2010 is finally complete. Featured is an example page, check out the full album on Flickr.
Previous years: Family Life 2009 | Family Life 2008
The Family Life albums are each between 40 and 50 pages of digital scrapbooking goodness, showing off major milestones and events that took place throughout the year …

What’s Cookin’ in the New Year
Happy New Year!
January is shaping up to be a busy month and 2011 has kicked off to a great start so far. Our doctor appointments have been going well, the geekling’s heartbeat has been nice and strong every time we get to hear it. The doctor is pleased with everything about our progress so far! We have another check-up next week, but the most exciting appointment is coming up next month, when we find out whether we’re having a boy or girl. I’m still confident it’s a girl, and I think even Lucas believes we’re having a girl. Time will tell! Who knows, the geekling may surprise us… we’ll let you know!
The holidays treated us …

We’re Pregnant!
It’s official: we’re expecting!
I’m so glad that we can FINALLY share our exciting news! We’re going to have a baby! Our first; we just couldn’t be happier right now. :)
Though we found out at the end of October, we kept the baby news under wraps until we had a chance to hear a heartbeat and see the baby at our first ultrasound. We had that appointment on December 1, and everything so far is perfect! We’re near the end of our first trimester now, and our due date is June 29, 2011.
The gender doesn’t matter to either of us, but for some reason I’ve just had this feeling that it’s going to be …

Kara’s Butternut Squash Pasta
It’s been a busy week but I’m finally finding the time to update and share the most recent new recipe that we tried last Sunday – Butternut Squash Pasta! The recipe was created by my teacher friend, Kara, and it turned out so good that she just had to share it with us. And we’re so glad that she did!
Kara described her adventure into creating the recipe over on her blog, Crayons and Cylons: What do you do with too much squash? – you’re going to want to head over there and check it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Neither Lucas nor I have any real experience with butternut squash. We both have a …
