week 2 - 52 collages 2014 - thekarpiuksThanks to crazy snow and subzero temperatures, we ended up having an entire additional week off of work/school; extending our winter break to three full weeks. The first two weeks were busy enough with the holidays and family get-togethers (plus Lucas was off work), but this final week caused Liam and I to go a bit stir crazy being cooped up indoors.  Lucas tried to keep the driveway clear, but had trouble in the dangerously low temperatures. We had around 14″ of total snow when all was said and done; poor Winston couldn’t go out in the backyard due to the blowing snow that blocked the doors.

To keep busy, we got creative. Liam tried out watercolors on his new easel and made owl paintings for Lila’s room, and I sewed some baby leg warmers and tights from womens’ socks. I even tried my hand at making a tutu for Lila, and it was ridiculously easy! I whipped up some matching crochet Batman toques for Liam and George, and a Batgirl version for future baby sister. By the end of the week, the roads were cleared enough that Liam and I decided we had to get out of the house, so we went to the mall. Liam had his first Build-a-Bear experience and made Lila her first stuffed animal, a purple My Little Pony. (And the dragon, Spike, for himself!)

While having another whole week off was nice and all, truthfully I think we’ll ALL be happy to get back to work and school tomorrow. Liam is definitely in need of some peer interaction, as am I. We’re just six short weeks away from baby Lila’s arrival and then a whole new adventure in being home bound will begin…
